Swell Point House, Point Chevalier
A detail-rich, urban-chic home, this easy winner of the 2023 NZIA Auckland Awards is also a strong contender in the Master Builder's 2024 House of the Year competition, named a Regional Category Winner and received both the Regional Lifestyle and Gold Award.
Built by the talented team at Hargraves Homes and designed by Architect Guy Tarrant, this project features meticulously designed and executed elements. Windowmakers were excited to be part of this project and proud of the finished result, as well as the teamwork shared with the architect, builders, homeowners, and other subcontractors involved throughout the journey to complete this project to such high standards.
A key requirement for this project was a soft, natural palette featuring cream bricks, oak, polished concrete, and painted board and batten cladding. The frost finish of the aluminium joinery was chosen for its simplicity, durability, and ability to seamlessly integrate all textures and elements, delivering a cohesive finished product.
The most intricate detail of the home’s glazing is the upstairs custom windows that follow the triangular arc of the ceiling lines, maximising natural light in the home. This impressive architectural feature, executed by Windowmakers, maximizes every square centimetre of the space. Known for pushing boundaries, Windowmakers brings each window design concept to life with precision and craftsmanship.
The house features a combination of APL Architectural and Metro Series aluminium doors and windows, known for their clean, flat lines and contemporary finish, available in large formats. These high quality windows and doors seamlessly integrate the outdoors with the home's interior, essential for a site adjacent to a reserve with a community garden, tennis, bowling, and croquet clubs. They capture the community's energy and offer a dynamic view of the seasonally changing street trees.
